Over the past few years, many of us have had to pivot and adjust our approaches to wellness and fitness. For me, the pandemic provided space to reflect on the importance of movement and physical activity in my day-to-day life, and caused me to shift the focus of my fitness routines toward intention and mindfulness. Through tough times (losing a loved one; moving to an unfamiliar new city) and exciting ones (getting engaged; launching my own business), I’ve turned to movement to help maintain stability. This new centering approach to fitness inspired me to create a line of products that make mindful running more accessible and understandable to others as well.
Another crucial part of my intentionality includes continued support for other Black-owned businesses within the health and wellness space. In the process of my journey, I realized the importance of representation and seeing others who look like me claiming space in impressive ways within the fitness industry. There are so many great Black-owned fitness brands and businesses you might not know about, many of which have shifted or were born during the pandemic into this world of digital connection. However, with so many available options for companies that offer broader access to platforms, programs, and tools, it can be challenging to stay abreast of what’s out there.
That’s why I’ve done the research for you. Below are my thoughts on some of the best Black-owned fitness brands and businesses to check out during Black History Month (and beyond). These companies prioritize both mindfulness and intention while still supporting your fitness goals, whatever they may be. This list includes studios throughout the United States that offer in-person classes, on-demand workout classes, activewear, accessories, and more to help you along your personal fitness journey.
